Carlotta completed her BSc in Biomedical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2020, where she developed an interest in applying engineering principles to understand human physiology. She went on to pursue an MSc in Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London, where she spent time exploring how mechanical forces shape early cardiac development in the Vermot lab
After graduating, Carlotta spent two years in the molecular diagnostics industry, developing electrochemical devices for rapid viral DNA detection.
In 2023, she joined King’s College London to manage the INSIGHT‑2 pregnancy and early childhood cohort at St Thomas’ Hospital, working in the Tribe lab. This study aims to uncover biological mechanisms underlying pregnancy complications such as preterm birth, and to understand how maternal exposures influence early immune development and the risk of childhood autoimmunity. In 2025, Carlotta was awarded a Wellbeing of Women predoctoral scholarship to investigate epigenetic alterations in placentas from INSIGHT-2 participants with type 1 diabetes in the Frost and Tribe labs.
Outside work, Carlotta loves playing basketball and coaching kids, reading fantasy novels and cooking (not only but mostly Italian food).
